Ministry of Commerce and Industry and Qatar Research, Development and Innovation Council sign MoU
To enhance joint cooperation in fields relating to research, development, innovation and intellectual property

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has signed a memorandum of understanding with Qatar Research, Development and Innovation (QRDI) Council to enhance joint cooperation in fields relating to research, development, innovation and the promotion of intellectual property values.
The MoU was signed by H.E. Mr. Saleh bin Majed Al-Khulaifi, Assistant Undersecretary for Commerce Affairs, and Mr. Omar Ali Al-Ansari, Secretary General of the QRDI Council.
The MoU facilitates the exchange of data and information on topics of common interest, the development and promotion of intellectual property values, and the exchange of expertise.
The MoU aims to bolster cooperation between both parties in a bid to synchronise national strategies and operational plans on issues of common interest and to enhance coordination for the development of a national intellectual property strategy, in addition to planning and undertaking joint programmes, academic studies, research and surveys that support strategic decision-making.
The MoU also aims to coordinate national efforts to improve Qatar’s ranking on global indicators; advance the development of legislative and organizational frameworks and the application of policies to facilitate business activities and attract innovative investments through research and development; and exchange expertise, knowledge, reports, studies and publications to support planning and implementation efforts by both parties.
Under the terms of the MoU, QRDI will participate as a member of the Technology and Innovation Support Centre to ensure that concerned authorities benefit from the centre’s expertise in research, development and innovation.
Commenting on the MoU, Mr. Al-Ansari, said: “Today we are pleased to sign this MoU with the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, which highlights the need for joint efforts in cooperation with the government to develop a comprehensive national framework that supports an integrated system for research, development and innovation in Qatar.”
